F. Equipment rentals
The Electronics & Computing Facility (ECF) holds several specialty tools and equipment to carry out its mandate. While not intended to be a loaning facility to research groups, we have accommodated short-term requirements for these tools. Unfortunately, these items are not always promptly returned. This results in delays to projects we are working on, until the item can be located. Often, it has been passed on to another group and chasing it down leads to more delays.
We do not want to interfere with your work by not making some of these items available to you, however we expect some reciprocal consideration, that these are things we need to carry out work, for other research projects, including your own.
Therefore, effective May 12, 1997, the ECF will continue to lend equipment for immediate and very short term needs. Borrowed equipment may not be incorporated into an experimental setup or long term experiment.
To encourage prompt return, the following procedures/charges will apply:
- If the ECF is using the tool/equipment, it will not be lent out.
- All tools/equipment lent out must be returned within 4 hours or before closing (5p.m.), whichever comes first.
- The following information must be provided at the time of lending:
Name
Research group
Room #
Telephone #
Description of the equipment borrowed - If the equipment is not returned on time, the following daily charges
will apply:
General tools (screwdrivers, pliers, cables, adapters, etc.) $5.00 / day Hand held equipment (DVM's, Thermometers, etc.) $10.00 / day Desk top equipment (Oscilloscopes, Generators, etc.) $20.00 / day
These measures are not intended to be punitive but rather to enable the facility to function without undue delays.
