Departmental Mailing Lists

There are several mailing lists available in the department:

ADMSTAFF - mail sent to this sublist will be delivered to all staff
STUDENTS - mail sent to this sublist will be delivered to all graduate students
POSTDOCS - mail sent to this sublist will be delivered to all postdoctoral fellows
FACULTY - mail sent to this sublist will be delivered to all faculty

The superset of all the above list is the superlist CHEMMAIL. In other words, mail sent to CHEMMAIL will be delivered to ADMSTAFF, STUDENTS, POSTDOCS and FACULTY. Please, target your mailings accordingly.

Only members of sublists can post to their respective sublists or to the superlist. All posts require confirmation by the sender. Immediately after sending your message to a list you will receive an automatic reply with a request for confirmation. Please, follow instructions in the message. Upon confirmation the message will be sent to the list.

Lists are being archived. You can access the lists archives at http://listserv.chem.utoronto.ca/cgi-bin/listserv/wa. Please, bookmark this URL for your future reference.

When visiting the archives for the first time, you will have to establish your password by clicking on "get a new LISTSERV password". Enter your E-mail address and a password that does not have to be the same as your chemistry account password. The E-mail address should not contain the word "alchemy". If you have a chemistry account, the address would be in the form of your_login_name@chem.utoronto.ca. The address must be the same as the address you are subscribed to the list with. Consequently if you have been subscribed to the list with an outside E-mail address and you later receive a chemistry account, please contact lists maintainer at listmast@chem.utoronto.ca to request removal of the old address.

The archives are private - only members of one of the sublists can view them. CHEMMAIL archives are NOT the superset of all the other archives. Only messages that were actually posted to CHEMMAIL will appear in CHEMMAIL archive. Other messages will appear in respective archives of the lists they were posted to.

Departmental mailing lists are intended for academic matters only. Please, refrain from mailing personal advertisements, classifieds or off topic discussions. Be aware that your mail will be delivered to every mailbox. Please, be considerate.

If you want to address other members of the department in non-academic matters, please use UseNet NewsGroups that were established specifically for this purpose. Their description is available at the Newsgroups Information page.
