Online Safety Orientation
The health and safety of our staff and researchers is of primary importance to us. The objective of this course is to provide safety awareness and training to all Chemistry Department personnel in the Lash Miller and Davenport Research Laboratories. There is a wide variety of chemicals and research equipment in use that may present significant risk to researchers and staff alike.
This course covers a wide range of health, safety, and waste disposal topics, including the Standard Operating Procedures currently in place in the Department of Chemistry. It also includes training on subject material required under the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulations. It is important to understand that this course supplements the information in the various Research Group Safety Manuals, but does not replace it. In view of the large number, complexity, and variety of laboratory procedures, the course focuses on the aspects of health and safety that are most common to all workers in the Department of Chemistry.
The course material and final quiz was prepared by the Department of Chemistry Joint Health and Safety Committee with the assistance of the University of Toronto Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
Getting Started
All new researchers, staff, students, visitors and volunteers must successfully complete the Chemistry online Safety Orientation Course in order to start work at the Lash Miller and Davenport Research Laboratories. No door keys will be issued until the Course is successfully completed.
