Chemical Physics Specialist

The Chemical Physics Program is appropriate for students whose interests lie in the interdisciplinary area between chemistry and physics. It includes key courses in physical chemistry and certain areas of physics (including electromagnetism and classical mechanics) and allows students to take additional courses in either physics or chemistry depending on their primary interest. It can lead to graduate work in physical chemistry or in a number of areas of physics.

Consult Professor J. Schofield, Physical Chemistry

Enrolment in this program requires completion of four courses; no minimum GPA is required. Fourteen (14) full courses or their equivalent, including at least 1.5 400-series courses are required to complete this program.

First Year: (CHM 151Y strongly recommended)/(138H, 139H); MAT 137Y/157Y; PHY (131H, 132H)/(151H, 152H)/140Y

Higher Years:
  1. APM 346H; CHM 225Y, 326H, 327H, 328H; MAT 223H/240H, 235Y/237Y, 244H, 334H; PHY 250H, 254H, 354H, 350H; CHM 423H/PHY (356H, 456H)
  2. Two full course equivalents from CHM 217H, 238Y, (CHM 249H strongly recommended/247H), 317H, 338H, 348H
  3. Further 400-series half-courses in CHM/PHY to make a total of 14 full courses
